Best and Worst of E3
Can you believe it's already over? Of course some will say the convention has been derailed a bit with a smaller avenue to work with in addition to many game companies staying free from it altogether. Regardless of what your outtake is, E3, is still the premiere gaming gather in the Northern U.S. of A.
Instead of going on and on with in-depth previews, trailer-galores and non-sensical ranting from yours' truly. Instead Silent Rival will like to give you the 5 best and worst moments of this year's E3. Look for the 5 worst moments next week.
Sony best of show conference Congratulations Sony, you may have just cleared your name. There was a lack of playable games, mainly screenshots and CGI trailers--it's all thought about the exciting stuff we know will come on the horizon. Let's see what do we have...we got God of War 3, MAG and DC Universe Online. They launched their new video service the same day Microsoft and Net Flix annoucned their parternishp. Games like Resistance 2 and Little Big Planet are stellar titles in the making, with Little Big Planet being perhaps the most innovative looking game this year. Gran Turismo TV, new Rachet and Clank and to a degree a PS3 price drop, round out the rest of the good news from SCEA.

Those music games People just cannot seem to get enough of them. In the endless battle of Rock Band 2 vs. Guitar Hero World Tour, who won? Tough call. Rock Band 2 had the went all out and got The Who (In honor of a plethora of their tracks becoming available for download) playing at E3. Rockin! But Guitar Hero World Tour is compatible with Rock Band 1 hardware on the 360 (We don't know about Wii or PS3) and that potentially means RB2 as well. The track list has been announced for Rock Band 2 and it pretty much covers every genre known to man so you have no reason to not know at least one song in the game. Both games are looking sharp, right now as it stands, the battle victor is hard to decide but it will all come down to who ever has the better songs. |
Final Fantasy XIII going to the 'other side' For the longest time Sony and their legion of fanboys have always looked at their system as a way to get exlusive rights to Metal Gear and Final Fantasy. Well the latter all changed. It was announced that Microsoft somehow did some real GOOD convincing to aquire the Japan game maker over to their side. Does this mean Xbox 360 owners will get Final Fantasy XIII Versus? Not sure, but this allows for a much wider American audience, as of now, Square-Enix has said they will release it to only PS3 in Japan. Sorry all 10 owners of 360 down there in the land of the Rising Sun. |
Microsoft gets Net Flix Read above, Sony was quick to counter with the recent aquisition of their own movie service, but in the mean time, 360 owners got Net Flix. As a matter of act if you currently have an account you can start streamlining movies to your hard drive for no additional cost. Guess those bigger hard drive sizes that lil' Jimmy said were worthless are becoming more and more needy. I think this is great news as gaming tries to push the envelope furhter to not only present itself to the mainstream audience much easier but it is a champion effort to unite all our home medium devices. Next up, Microsoft to call up Dr. Satan and revive HD DVD or "officially" go Blu-Ray.

Left 4 Dead So many great games, from the awesome co-op demo of Resident Evil 5, a game I am sure we'll be talking alot before it gets closer to Resistance 2 and the wonderful Gran Turismo series which should easily earn "Best Racer" award for 2008.. Little Big Planet has Silent Rival going all crazy but the one game that stoled our attention was Left 4 Dead. The graphics look absolutely stunning using a style of it's own, I would like to say the most original looking game since Bio Shock. frame rate was silky smooth at 60FPS, there are some killer weapons and plenty of enemies, also the level of interaction is beyond the normal action gamel. The best part is, we got plenty of snippets and video shots--so it's not all hype. As franchises like Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Halo, Call of Duty, Resident Evil and Silent Hill go more into sunset, we need new series to rejuvenate our attentions. Left 4 Dead is the start of all that. |
